Immaculate Mary | Celebrating the Feast of the Immaculate Conception

On December 8, the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of the Immaculate Conception — the truth that Mary, the Mother of God, was conceived without sin and preserved from all stain of original sin. This bold teaching reminds us that God had a plan of grace from the very beginning for the woman who would become the Mother of His Son.

Mary’s Fiat: Saying Yes to God

In the Gospel of Luke (1:26–38), the angel Gabriel visits Mary with an extraordinary message: she has been chosen to bear Jesus, the Son of God. At first, Mary is “greatly troubled” and questions why she has been chosen. But once she understands that this mission is possible only through God’s grace, she responds with her fiat — her wholehearted yes:

“Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done unto me according to your word.”

Her response is not just a moment in history but a model for us today.

Living the Immaculate Conception in Our Lives

The Immaculate Conception reminds us of God’s providence and Mary’s perfect openness to His will. Like Mary, we are invited to:

  • Trust God’s plan, even when we feel uncertain.
  • Say yes to grace, knowing God equips us for our mission.
  • Walk in purity of heart, keeping our lives centered on Him.

On this feast, may we imitate Mary by proclaiming our own fiat in daily life, certain that God’s grace will carry us into the future.

I’m Amy

After learning about a saint who played tennis and hung out with her friends at coffee shops, I realized you don’t have to be a martyr or a nun to get to Heaven! Through this blog, I share that awesome truth. When I’m not writing, you can find me coding, frequenting Adoration, ice skating, or finding another corgi on Instagram to obsess over.
