Sister Small Group | Flowering Buds of Mary Talk on Detachment

This evening I had the joy of attending a powerful talk hosted by my dear friend Katrina, founder of the young women’s ministry Flowering Buds of Mary. Their mission is “to know our authentic identity as daughters of God by imitating the virtues of our Blessed Mother, who is the model of authentic femininity.”

The monthly gathering featured Father Zygmunt, who spoke on the theme: “Live in Full Bloom: Detachment — Letting Go and Letting God.” His words reminded me that freedom, peace, and holiness come when we release our grip on worldly expectations and cling only to Christ.

Key Takeaways on Detachment

Here are some of the powerful lessons I wrote down from the evening:

  • Detachment is both spiritual and personal. We live in a culture of attachment, always grasping for people, things, or recognition.
  • Only the Bread of Life can satisfy. Our hearts long to be nourished by real love, not temporary pleasures.
  • Our hearts project expectations. Dreams, longings, and demands of others often weigh us down.
  • The “diseases” of the future and the past. We miss the present moment when we live in regret or worry. “Now is the most important,” as St. Mother Teresa said.
  • Freedom is sanctity. As St. John Paul II said, “A saint is free, and a free person is a saint.” God wants us to be free.
  • Detachment purifies us. God saves us by purifying our attachments for the greater good.
  • Relationships and expectations are hardest to release. Yet even here, Jesus calls us to let go and trust Him.
  • Mistakes do not define you. There is always room for repentance, conversion, and a fresh start.

Why This Matters

Detachment doesn’t mean not caring — it means entrusting everything to God, trusting that His plan is greater than our own. Just as the Carmelite tradition teaches, we must not tie our happiness to external conditions, but rest peacefully where the Lord places us.

This talk was a reminder that God’s love is constant, His grace is abundant, and His call is always toward freedom.

I’m Amy

After learning about a saint who played tennis and hung out with her friends at coffee shops, I realized you don’t have to be a martyr or a nun to get to Heaven! Through this blog, I share that awesome truth. When I’m not writing, you can find me coding, frequenting Adoration, ice skating, or finding another corgi on Instagram to obsess over.
