Little Lessons From the Little Flower | St. Thérèse’s “Story of a Soul”

I just started reading Story of a Soul by St. Thérèse of Lisieux, the Little Flower, and came across a quote that touched me deeply:

“I understood that all the flowers that He created are beautiful. The brilliance of the rose and the whiteness of the lily don’t take away the perfume of the lowly violet or the delightful simplicity of the daisy… So it is in the world of souls, which is Jesus’ garden. He wanted to create great saints who could be compared to lilies and roses. But He also created little ones, and these ought to be content to be daisies or violets destined to gladden God’s eyes… Perfection consists in doing His will, in being what He wants us to be.”

This reflection reminds me that holiness isn’t about comparing myself to others — it’s about blooming in the way God created me.

Blooming in Littleness

Some days, I may feel like a rose — radiant and strong. Other days, I may be more like a daisy or violet — simple, quiet, but still beautiful in God’s eyes. Each soul has its unique fragrance and role in Jesus’ garden.

My little way of blooming is found in:

  • Loving others sincerely
  • Sharing God’s beauty with joy
  • Embracing the plan He has for me, no matter how small

Holiness comes in trusting that God delights in each “flower” He has planted, great or small.

I’m Amy

After learning about a saint who played tennis and hung out with her friends at coffee shops, I realized you don’t have to be a martyr or a nun to get to Heaven! Through this blog, I share that awesome truth. When I’m not writing, you can find me coding, frequenting Adoration, ice skating, or finding another corgi on Instagram to obsess over.
