Mirroring Mary | Finding Humility and Grace in Adoration

“Lord, grant me the humility …”

That was the prayer on my heart as I entered Adoration this Monday to pray the Rosary. Lately, I’ve been reflecting on my need to bring overconfidence to prayer—and soon, to therapy (my first session is in August!). But in the meantime, there’s no better therapy than Jesus in the Eucharist and spending Mondays with Mary.

The Rosary and Its Virtues

When I opened my Bible to the “Mysteries of the Rosary” insert, the first intention struck me: “For the love of humility.”Each mystery brought another virtue to reflect on:

  • Charity toward my neighbor – shown in simple love, like helping my roommate Beth get to bingo.
  • The spirit of poverty – a reminder to let go of my Goodwill obsession.
  • Obedience – praying every bead intentionally, without rushing.

God, Jesus, Joseph, and Mary spoke powerfully through these mysteries, shaping the prayer into something deeper.

The Nativity and Skin-to-Skin Contact

During the Third Joyful Mystery, the Nativity, I pictured holding baby Jesus to my chest, skin-to-skin, the way a mother holds her newborn. Then I realized: when the Host touches my tongue in Communion, it is truly a form of skin-to-skin contact with Christ Himself. What an intimate gift!

Mirroring Mary in Adoration

For the last decade, I’ve mirrored the wooden statue of Mary in the Adoration chapel. I place my hand over my heart, just as she places hers over her holy baby bump—a gesture that fills me with longing and hope for the gift of motherhood one day.

Spending time with Mary and Jesus in Adoration is such a blessing. Mondays with Mary remind me to stay humble, prayerful, and open to God’s will.

Did you spend your Monday with Mary?

I’m Amy

After learning about a saint who played tennis and hung out with her friends at coffee shops, I realized you don’t have to be a martyr or a nun to get to Heaven! Through this blog, I share that awesome truth. When I’m not writing, you can find me coding, frequenting Adoration, ice skating, or finding another corgi on Instagram to obsess over.
