Wojtyla Wednesday | The Beginning of Our Deep-Dive Into JPII’s “Letter to Women”

St. John Paul II’s “Letter to Women” is a stunning on anthem on what it means to uphold the beauty and sacredness of the Church while maintaining our femininity and being the unique creatures God made us to be.

On Wojtyla Wednesdays here at The Chiara Collective, we will begin to go through the Pope’s “Letter to Women” a few paragraphs at a time.

A lot of phrases and images impacted me as I started to read the Letter. One such phrase was “the cause of women in the Church”. I reflected on the fact that, though we can’t be priests or deacons, we can minister to our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ through our uniquely feminine touch and sensitivities to one another.

St. John Paul II takes careful tact to emphasize the dignity and rights of women, which have been overshadowed by the evils of abortion permeating our society. We should similarly emphasize daily prayer to Mary to uphold the sanctity of life at all stages, and to wrap babies and mothers in her mantle of protection.

The Holy Trinity itself has instilled in women a mystery, which is also known as the feminine genius. Without the daily intercession of the Trinity, we would not have the proper guidance to know the right path to lead our families and friends down.

Similar to being leaders, St. John Paul II praises women in the workforce — although it is a blessing to minister in the home, career-driven women “make an indispensable contribution to the growth of a culture which unites reason and feeling”.

Most importantly, women enrich the world’s understanding and make the human experience more honest and authentic. We naturally compliment men and add to the complexities of humanity through our unique perspectives.

After learning about a saint who played tennis and hung out with her friends at coffee shops, I realized you don’t have to be a martyr or a nun to get to Heaven! Through this blog, I share that awesome truth. When I’m not writing, you can find me coding, frequenting Adoration, ice skating, or finding another corgi on Instagram to obsess over.
